Weaning a toddler is challenging and fun if you plan each step of the weaning process. Introduce a variety of foods so that your baby will enjoy various food textures and tastes. These are all recipes made for babies 6 months and onwards. They are adapted from BabyworldUK.

They are especially made for baby-led weaning since they are all solid finger foods that you can hand to your baby during mealtimes with the rest of the family.

Baby-led weaning seems to be more favorable to babies. Do you know that, according to a recent study, babies who were allowed to self-feed as they weaned grew up to be much leaner and healthier than their counterparts who have been spoon-fed? The details of the study are described here.

Peach-Cheese Toast

  • Half of a peach (cooked)

  • 4 oz of cottage cheese

  • 1 slice of toasted whole meal bread

  1. Wash the peach thoroughly. Cut and make an X into one side of the skin.

  2. Put the fruit (X side down) onto a small shallow sauce pan which contains an inch of water.

  3. Simmer the peach until it turns soft.

  4. Remove the skin and the peach stone.

  5. Mash the fruit until the texture is completely smooth. Stir in the cottage cheese and combine thoroughly.

  6. You can either use the mixture as a dip or as a spread for the toasted whole meal bread.

Scrambled Egg Yolk

  • 1 whole egg

  • 1 tsp of olive oil

  • 1 tbsp of full fat milk (you can also use either breast milk or infant formula)

  • 1 pinch of dried dill (optional)

  1. Separate the egg yolk. The egg white you can set it aside for later use in other family dishes.

  2. Use a fork to beat the yolk gently. Stir in the milk.

  3.  Heat the olive oil in a small frying pan and pour in the egg yolk. Cook the scrambled egg until it is fluffy and golden brown.

  4. Season the egg with dill.

  5. Serve the egg on toasted whole meal bread as a finger food for your baby.

Take note that all the indicated portion sizes vary according to your baby’s age and appetite. Adjust the amounts accordingly to your discretion.
